Årbakka Handelsstad og Årbakkavollen
Årbakka handelsstad is an old trade post by the sea, with a classic general store from 1898. The old post has a sheltered and quiet location, with spectacular view of the Onarhiemsfjord and the mountains of Kvinnherad.
Just above the trading post lies Årbakkavollen, an ancient monument from the older Iron Age (0-550 AD) with the remains of 20 burial mounds and at least 6 menhirs (standing stones).
Information sign at the car park, free parking and entrance. Guest quay if you arrive by boat.
Myrvold gård, Huglo
At the entrance to the Hardangerfjord lies the island of Huglo, and this is where you find Myrvold farm.
Today's owners have run the farm for over 20 years. They have built a visitor's farm with a farm shop, cafe/gallery and accommodation options. Everything that is served or sold in the farm shop is mainly grown, gathered or produced from resources on the farm or in the local environment. The garden has most of the traditional Norwegian farm animals as well as some exotic elements.
Cheese, sour cream, butter, cakes, ice cream, juice, jams and jellies, tea and spices, eggs, natural products, sheepskin, gifts such as fine art, ceramics and much more can be found in the farm shop.
It is free to take the ferry to Huglo, either from Tysnes or from Stord. From the ferry quay it is only a few minutes' drive to the Myrvold farm.
E H Vaage landhandleri, bageri og dampskibsexpedition
Chocolateri, local food outlet and local craft products. The old trading post is today like a living museum, where you can see what a Western Norway trading post by the sea would have been like a 100 years ago.
In 1895, Engelaus H Vaage inherited the trading post from his father at Eie in Uggdal. He married rich, and built the shop where it stands today, in 1902. It was later run by his son Ole Vaage, until it was closed in 1987. In recent years, Haaheim Gaard Hotel has restored it and made it their seafront location. Haaheim Sjokolade also has its production and sale of handmade confectionery here.
Chairs and tables by the sea makes for a wonderful stay by the lovely bay in Uggdal.
Relax and enjoy a memory from a bygone era!

Pyrite mine in Selvågen
Not far from Hodnane's ferry quay, in the direction of Onarheim, you can explore a real mine that lies close to the county road.
The mine passage goes about 140 meters into the mountain, and at the far end it splits into two side passages, each 5-6 meters long. The mine is completely safe to walk in, but would be an advantage to have waterproof shoes. Bring a flashlight and a dose of adventure.
Marmorgruva på Seløya
One of the most spectacular marble mines in Sunnhordland, where a layer of marble has been excavated in an underground mine, probably dating back to the 17th century. There are several entrances to the mine, and you will find it very spectacular to stand inside and look out towards the sea.
Access by boat. Seløya lies between Flornes and Ånuglo, south-east of Onarheim.
Marble mine at Seløya
The bedrock on the east side of Tysnes is for the most part limestone. This has been used for lime burning for several hundred years, and gave the farms in the area an extra and welcome source of income until around 1900.
The finished burnt lime or quicklime was shipped, among other things, to Bergen and used for house building. The lime kiln in Flakka was restored in 1992 by the Tysnes cultural heritage association in collaboration with Tysnes municipality.
The kiln is located by Flakkavågen about 2 km south of Onarheim. Parking and information board by the main road.
WWII memorial on Reksteren
During the war, two German forts were built on Reksteren, one in the south - at Flygansvær - and one in the north, at Kaldafoss.
The fort at Flygansvær is relatively large and well preserved. An information board has been set up at the fort with a map of the facility.
At Kaldafoss, a memorial was erected in 2014 in the memory of three British airmen who were shot down in 1941.
